President’s Message

24 July 06

Greetings again fellow archers,

A letter, maybe more, is being circulated by Bill Wee, claiming the present AAS committee is dysfunctional and unable to do its job. Well, your ‘dysfunctional’ committee has managed to achieve the following:

1. Put together and work with three clubs to organize 3 major tournaments for you over the next 2 months.

2. Collected and serviced the timing equipment which was in a total state of disrepairs and which had remained unserviceable for the past year or so.

3. Arranged for a proper Judicial Committee to be formed to help look after the rules pertaining to tournaments in Singapore.

4. Liaise with external organizations like FITA and AAF to get the club matters up to date. Incidentally, despite what was claimed previously, the Standard Class is still being pushed by FITA and the standard badges are still available. We are writing to buy some of these badges which will be given out properly on the day of the tournament itself. It is unfortunate that it may not come in on time for the NJC Tournament of 29 July 2006.

5. Sourcing for competent coaches to conduct the various technical and first aid courses.

6. Putting together the papers of coaches who have qualified but who are not on the NROC list for one reason or another. If you are one of them, please write and send us your qualifications soonest so that we can sort it out.

7. Started planning work on the Youth Development Program which also encompasses the open trial selection policy, decentralization of training centers, and more. It is very exciting but also very massive.

8. Got the website to look more ‘refreshing’ and ‘alive’. If you have good articles or links, do write to us about it. If you have any suggestions to improve the site, we are all ears.

9. Working to source a new National Training Ground. One that can accommodate more archers and will be laid out ‘correctly’ in terms of signage, line markings, environmental control, storage facilities, etc.

10. Clearing all the backlog of important documents that were not signed and submitted. All the documents were way past their datelines and many involved fundings from the Sports Council and our sponsor.

11. Attending meetings, review, and briefings so as to ensure that good solid work are done to make AAS more efficient. Incidentally, the review by SSC, mentioned in Bill’s letter, was meant for Tang and his committee as it was a review of his committee’s work. None of Tang’s committee members, including Bill, was there to assist him. Instead, we (yes Bill, there were more than one of us) had to ‘help’ him out even though we were merely observers at that review.

So, in conclusion, I would like to say “Let the committee members do their work. If you cannot help, don’t hinder or be an obstacle or go around spreading lies and malicious rumours. My committee members and I do not want to spend any time on such unproductive work. We rather use our limited time, energy and resources, to do work that benefits the sport of archery.”

Anyway, you will be happy to note that a calendar of event, covering the next 18 months will be put up shortly. We will also be calling for tenders by clubs and individuals to organize the events mentioned in it. The formats of the tournaments will be changed to reflect more accurately the international formats being held. Clubs are also encouraged to organize their own events but do book the dates early once the Calendar is out.

Thank you.

George Loh
