President's Address

08 February 07

Hi All,

Wow, it has been one busy period after another. Over the last 2 months, we have seen no less than three local competitions and one overseas competition in Bangkok. And it ain't over yet. I understand that Singapore Polytechnic & NUS are also going to organize a shoot. That is great. Great for archery in Singapore and great for those who crave for more archery shoots. Check with them please

Bangkok Asian Grand Prix 2007

This year, 19 countries took part including the top archery nations of Iran, Japan, Philippines, Malaysia, and Chinese Taipei. The competition was fierce and the scores were high. Did we do well?

We sure did.

Vinson Heng fought his way in the elimination rounds to emerge runner up in the Games. Winning the Silver was no easy feat as he had to stand up against and try to defeat the top archers from Myanmar, India and the Philippines. It was a grand final with Vinson losing out by only a few points to the tournament top compound archer, Earl Yap. Well done Vinson.

During the team events, the men compound team provided the thrill and challenge as they took on the teams from India, the Philippines (again?) and Iran. Iran eventually took the gold after we lost to them by only 1 point, 221 to 222. Along the way, we set a new games record of 228 points (out of a possible 240) when we defeated India. Kudos to the team of Vinson Heng, Michael Ong, Adriel Chua and Daniel Tan.

The camaraderie and team spirit of the Singapore contingent was very high and most notable and vocal were the young and upcoming archers like Adriel, Ken Li, Jennifer, and Elshan. The experience they gained was also very much appreciated by them and we can expect good things from them all. Well done Singapore.

Beijing Olympics 2008

Elsewhere on this site is an invitation from the Beijing Olympic Committee for volunteers to assist in the 2008 games. If you are interested please register with them directly. It will be an experience of a lifetime even if you have to invest the time and money into it.

SEA Games 2007

The first opportunity for would be archers to qualify for the shootout to be in the SEA Team was held during the AAS outdoor shoot. That was for January 2007. The next full fita shoot will take place after the Lunar New Year on Sunday, 04 March, 2007. This event will take place at the 90m range at FAAC but if the Zhenghua Range is ready in time we will hold it there. I apologise for the change in date as PPCC is also organizing a compound course over the same weekend and SP is having their tournament, and we should support each other in our effort to promote archery.

The March Shoot will be on Sunday, 25 March 2007 as earlier informed.

Generally, we will try to set the shoot for the last Sunday of the month. Should there be any changes, we will advise you accordingly via this website. So, check in regularly now.

AAS Outdoor Shoot 2007

We had a great shoot with lots of fun and participants. Thanks for the great effort especially Ali who did the scoring and Jaffar who organized the field. Also, the great help rendered by the NJC and NP students were invaluable. The competition was of a high standard and we hope other organizers of shoots will emulate and produce events of quality for the archers out there. To the judges who did a fantastic job as usual, a big thanks from us all.

I apologise for the team prizes not given out that day as there were some changes to the program categories and I did not change the prizes in time. This is being done and I will get the prizes to the deserving winners very soon.

Incidentally, the badges are all in and if you qualify for a particular class of badge, please contact Zoe See and she will assist you with the application. Remember, you must fill in the form and you can only claim it once. If in doubt, refer to your rules book. I will be at the FAAC range on Saturday 17 February from 9 am till 12 pm. If you like, you can come by then to collect the badge on the spot.

SEA 1st Outdoor Junior Championship 2007

This event is being organized by Singapore and we really want to put on a super shoot for all locally and our friends who are coming from the various SEA countries.

Volunteers are needed in order to make this event a success. Please help us out by contributing in whatever ways you can, especially as:

  1. Guest Relations Officers
  2. Scorers
  3. Field Assistants
  4. Event Organiser

You can contact Richard Tay who is the man in charge of the event. Richard’s email can be found here.

Membership Fees 2007

To those that paid on time, a big thanks. If you have not sent in your payment for your club, please do so immediately so that we can update the register correctly.

Compound Archery course at Potong Pasir CC

After much effort, PPCC Youth Archery has managed to secure and arrange for the services of compound coach, Peter Bourke, from Australia. Please see this link to their flyer. This is a super opportunity for you folks out there who want to improve on their compound skills or to pick up some knowledge. The money you invest will be well worth the time spent and knowledge gained. For more details please contact Mr. Tang of PPCC at 93893501 or email him here. Closing date : 15/2/2007.

I would like to end off this page by wishing each and every archer out there a Happy and Prosperous Lunar New Year. May you enjoy great contentment and great success. Enjoy the extended holidays folks.
