President's Address

01 January 07

Hi all,

Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.

Selection of archers for Bangkok's 1st AGP 2007

Selection will take place at FAAC on Sunday, 07 January 2007. All squad members are invited to participate and they must submit their names to me by Thursday 04 January 11pm. Reporting time on the day of selection is 0745 hrs. After consultation with Coach Choi, we will be shooting a double 70m event. We will then pick the top three archers in each category that are available for the meet. There will be no elimination round.

The Team will leave for Bangkok on 31 January 2007 and return on 06 February 2007. Flight and hotel details will be advised once confirmed. Those not selected but wishes to participate on their own accord and shoot for the experience must submit their names and particulars for our consideration no later than Tuesday 09 January 2007 11pm. You will need to pay your own expenses and follow the team's routine and programme.

Cash awards at competitions

I have written to FITA to seek advice on receiving cash prizes at competitions and how this will impact on the athlete's amateur status if any. I may be wrong on this but it is still better to err on the side of prudence. The last thing I want is to have a promising archer's dreams terminated because he has disqualified himself by accepting cash as a competition prize.

To all club members I would like to ask that you do not give cash awards as part of the prizes as it can be very controversial. Instead have your sponsors give trophies, archery equipment, vouchers, etc., instead. If the sponsor has no hidden personal agendas, I am sure he will comply if asked. If we don't give out cash awards, we will not have this problem ever.

Badges given out at competitions are okay but do not tout it as anything close to FITA awards or else the standards of archery will be adversely affected. Archers are to bear in mind that only FITA awards are valid for considerations by SSC and AAS.
