President's Address

30 July 07

Greetings Archers,

Time flies and all too soon it is a month later.

AGM

This was held at Zhenghua CC on Sunday 15 July 2007 and the Secretary will post minutes of that meeting separately. Turnout was as expected (only a few) but the discussions held was very fruitful. Thanks to all who made the effort to attend.

PESTA SUKAN SHOOT 2007

Time again for the Pesta Shoot. This time round it is being organized by the archers from NTU with co-operation from AAS. Please see attached for details. Do send in early your entries and get training going. It is only about a month away.

INTERSCHOOLS SHOOT 2007

To better organize and to allow time for the archers to train for the event, the organizers have decided to hold the event in mid November or thereabouts instead of early August. That is good news indeed. I strongly encourage all coaches involved in training student archers to get the message out early so that ALL student archers can participate even if they are the only archer from their school. Simply fill in the form and get the school authorities to endorse and you can shoot as an individual representing your school.

Next year, the sport of archery will be recognized in the school curriculum and this can only spell good things for the sport of archery. Watch out for the final details soon to be out.

ZHENGHUA NATIONAL ARCHERY RANGE

The Range Committee has submitted a proposal to the management of the community club to revise the fees for using the range as the present fee structure is deemed inadequate to properly maintain the range in its present condition. As such, the fees will be revised upwards from 01 August 2007. A full report outlining the rationale and new fee structure will be presented on this website shortly by the RC.

3rd FITA WORLD COACHING SEMINAR IN KOREA

FITA is organizing a coaching seminar in Geo San City in South Korea from 22nd to 26th October 2007. All current senior archery coaches registered with the NROC can submit their names to the AAS Secretary for compilation and registration purposes. All fees are to be fully borne by the trainees themselves. Please see attached for details. Closing date for submission to AAS is 30 August 2007.

I wrote to SSC coaching department to enquire about possible coaching sponsorship and attached is the form for those who want to give it a shot.

KEDAH INDOOR ARCHERY COMPETITION, 17 to 19 AUGUST

NAAM has written to us to inform that the Kedah Archery Club will be hosting the Kedah Indoor Archery competition from the 17 to 19 August. Archers or clubs that are interested to attend this competition please get in touch with them directly at 60 12 5091623 or fax them at 60 4 7342622. Basically, the cost is US$40 per archer and this covers the registration fee, transportation during the tournament, packed lunches/dinners. Accommodation is charged separately but they have informed that it is very cheap.

CLOSURE AND RETURN OF JURONG RANGE TO SSC

As the range was under utilized and no clubs wanted to rent it, AAS has decided to return the range to SSC. The containers there have been removed and disposed off. All it needs now is a final cleaning up before the place is handed over to SSC.

TRAINING COURSES

Sporadic enquiries have been made of AAS as to when the Technical level 1 course will be held. After putting in so much effort to get the earlier courses going only 2 members responded to indicate that they were interested. After just canceling the course, enquiries are now being made of the secretary as to when AAS is going to organize such a course.

Tell you what guys, send us your names and once we have enough to justify doing such a course we will then go about organizing one, else it will be a waste of our time.

Similarly for any other courses that you may be interested in. Understand the Judging Committee may be organizing a Judges' Course soon for wannabes who want to volunteer their services as Judges for the many tournaments to come.

BRIEFING ON COACHING DISABLED ARCHERS

SSC is arranging a 4hour briefing session for all interested coaches who want to know more and be involved with coaching disabled archers.

Venue: Zhenghua CC, Room 4, Level 4
Date: Saturday, 25 August 2007
Time: 10 am to 2 pm

Those interested please give your name to the Secretary so that course information and materials can be forwarded to you.

SSC is very keen to promote vigorously this group of archers with a view of sending them to the many overseas competitions that are being organized. They are re-looking at the present way of training and would like to work with AAS and NROC coaches to streamline the whole training and selection process. If you are a qualified coach and would like to work with SSC on this, then you will need to attend the briefing as it is one of the pre-requisites for selection onto their team of trainers.

LET'S CELEBRATE 40 YEARS OF ARCHERY IN SINGAPORE

Yup, believe it or not, archery has been in Singapore for the past 40 years. In 1967, Archery Club of Singapore was formed and soon after the AAS was registered with the Registrar of Society. I think this calls for a celebration, don't you?

...and last but not least Happy National Day. Good shooting guys.
